North Hempstead Seniors Sought For New Softball Team
The team will play 60 games in the Long Island Senior Softball Association.
MANHASSET, NY — Grab a glove and bat, seniors — North Hempstead Town officials seek residents who are at least 60 years old for a new softball league.
Judi Bosworth, the town supervisor, council member Veronica Lurvey and town board members, have been working with the Long Island Senior Softball Association to field a new team, which will play next summer. The team will be part of the softball association and the town will pay for the team's costs, including umpire fees, league dues and jerseys.
"North Hempstead is always looking for new and innovative ways to keep our senior residents engaged and active," Bosworth said in a news release. "The addition of a senior softball league is in keeping with our goals of increasing programming and providing recreational activities for our seniors."

Those interested in playing better find some tough cleats — the team will play 60 games next year from May through September. Thirty of them will be home games and double-headers. The games will be played during the cooler morning hours at park that will be announced at a later date.
"We are thrilled to be able to follow up on this idea, brought to us by our residents," Lurvey said. "We are looking forward to bringing senior softball to North Hempstead and join our fellow Hempstead and Oyster Bay townships with a team of our own."
