Osprey Nest Moved To Safer Location In Port Washington
The nest, located on a pole atop power lines, was in danger of catching fire, the Town of North Hempstead says.

PSEG workers safely moved an osprey nest that was in danger of catching fire in Port Washington on Monday.
According to the Town of North Hempstead, employees noticed that the birds built their nest directly on a pole atop power lines. A Department of Environmental conservation employee guided the Town to contact PSEG-LI workers, who erected a new 40-foot pole just yards from the original nest and installed a specially-designed nest platform on West Shore Road, outside the Town’s Solid Waste Management Authority offices.
The nest was carefully moved to the new location and was quickly approved by the osprey couple. There are no eggs in their nest, but the Town hopes the birds will soon expand their family.
