'Port Outdoors' Canceled Again Due To Weather

For the second time in three weeks, the weekly Port Outdoors Dine and Shop, part of the town's "Lift Up Local" initiative, will not happen.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Port Outdoors Dine and Shop, an initiative meant to support businesses in Port Washington's downtown section, has once again been canceled due to inclement weather, organizers said Thursday morning.

The Port Outdoors planning committee determined that due to expected heavy rains, the event, scheduled to beginning late Thursday afternoon, would have to be canceled. To provide equal opportunities to both upper and lower Main Street businesses, organizers shifted future dates as follows:

  • Upper Main Street & Port Commons (from Port Washington Boulevard to Belleview Avenue) on Sept. 17 and Oct. 1
  • Middle and lower Main Street (from Central Drive to Shore Road) on Sept. 24
  • Oct. 8 reserved for rain date.

Organizers said that while the street will not be closed off, business remain open.

"You can still order take out. Shop at your favorite store. Bring home flowers. Schedule a massage/hair cut/manicure. We can still Lift Up Local," the Port Washington Business Improvement District and Greater Port Washington Chamber of Commerce said in a joint announcement.

The Port Outdoors event aimed to create walking-only zones on Thursday evenings, alternating each week between upper and lower Main Street. As Patch previously reported, the initiative's kick-off night Aug. 27 was also canceled due to poor weather.
