(NAMM Foundation)

PORT WASHINGTON, NEW YORK (APRIL 2021)—For the seventh consecutive year, the Port Washington Union Free School District has been honored with the 2021 Best Communities for Music Education award by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation. This accolade recognizes the district’s outstanding innovation and commitment to music education.

“The district is honored to be recognized for this prestigious designation from the NAMM Foundation,” said Dr. Michael Hynes, Superintendent of Port Washington Union Free School District. “The musical talent among our students and staff, coupled with the support from community members and groups that help bring it to light, is second to none. Our students, staff and community are extremely deserving of this honor.”

PWUFSD’s comprehensive music program provides its student musicians with access to high quality instruction and several opportunities to showcase their talent. Districts that qualify for the accolade are required to answer detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs.
