PORT WASHINGTON, NY—The new coronavirus has forced the cancellation of this year’s HarborFest. The fun-filled, which was scheduled for June 7, attracts about 12,000 people a year and is sponsored by the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce and Town of North Hempstead.

"This is not the decision any of us had hoped for but it is the safest one. Some key elements of HarborFest could not happen if we postponed it, and there is too much uncertainty about how the virus will act in the coming weeks and months," the chamber said in a statement. "We know that businesses will need time to recover from this crisis, and we plan to come back bigger and stronger in 2021."

When things settle down, chamber officials said they plan to explore ways to help local businesses recover from the impact of the virus while celebrating the community.
