PORT WASHINGTON, NY — The Long Island Rail Road has good news for New Year's Eve travelers: the MTA plans to offer extra trains to and from Port Washington and Penn Station on Tuesday.

For those who want to avoid the evening rush and leave New York City in Tuesday afternoon, there will be a 3:40 p.m. train departing Penn Station that will go to Woodside, Flushing-Main Street, and make all stops to Great Neck.

For those attending New Year’s Eve celebrations, the LIRR will operate extra westbound trains to Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal on Tuesday. There will be a 7:07 p.m. local train leaving Great Neck to Woodside and Penn Station, and there will be an 8:42 p.m. local train from Port Washington stopping at Woodside and Penn Station.

During the early morning hours of New Year's Day, on Wednesday, the LIRR will operate extra eastbound trains from Penn Station for those returning home. Trains will depart at 12:35 a.m., 2:19 a.m., and 4:18 a.m., stopping at Woodside, Flushing-Main Street, and making all stops to Port Washington.
