Port Washington Invited To Light Luminaries To Show Pride
Underscoring the "Light Up Port" initiative is the message that even small gestures of appreciation can build community pride and gratitude.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Port Washington residents are encouraged to show pride in their town and raise money for a good cause by sending luminaries to friends and loved ones and lighting them up all over town next month.
Port Washington's Schreiber Home and School Association and the 2021 Gambol committee will host the first-annual "Light Up Port" appreciation illumination. Neighbors are invited to send a luminary and note of appreciation, gratitude, friendship, unity and compassion to friends, businesses and first responders in Port Washington. On Saturday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m., participants will place their luminary in front of homes and storefronts and illuminate them. They can share photos of the luminaries on social media with the hashtag #LightUpPort.
Underscoring the initiative is the message that even small gestures of appreciation can build community pride and gratitude.

The Gambol is Schreiber's senior prom that dates to 1958. Each year, volunteers create a "magical, safe, and memorable experience to celebrate the graduating seniors and their achievements," according to the organization's website. The Gambol is funded through parent-run, yearlong fundraising efforts that help ensure all graduating seniors can attend the Gambol event and/or their graduation achievements are celebrated.
