Port Washington School Records 2nd Coronavirus Case In 8 Days
The positive COVID-19 test brings the Port Washington Union Free School District's total to five on the young year.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — A middle school in Port Washington recorded a coronavirus case for the second time in eight days, bringing the district's total cases to five on the young school year, officials said Tuesday.
Carrie Palmer Weber Middle School recorded a second positive test for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, officials told parents in a letter Tuesday. The Nassau County Department of Health notified the Port Washington Union Free School District late Monday of the positive case, superintendent Michael Hynes said in the letter.
The district didn't immediately say whether the person was a student or staff member. The school will follow it's previously planned virtual learning day Wednesday.

The Health Department was contacted to conduct a contact tracing investigation, officials said. Crews have begun sanitizing and cleaning the building under the district's reopening plan
The pods related to the latest case were scheduled to work virtually Tuesday, Hynes said. The building principal has notified the parents of the affected pods.

The Health Department will contact people considered to be in close contact with the infected person. The infected person must submit a note from a health care professional clearing them to return to school.
State records on the latest case weren't immediately available Tuesday.
The district has recorded five coronavirus cases as of Tuesday. As Patch previously reported, a student at the same school tested positive for the disease last week as well. In that case, Weber was closed for a day for cleaning and sanitization. Students and staff followed a full virtual day of learning.
Two students tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month, forcing Paul D. Schreiber High School and John J. Daly Elementary School to close for a day. A second student at Daly also tested positive for COVID-19, but that student wasn't physically in school the previous week and the school did not close.
The latest case comes as Port Washington elementary schools returned to a five-day in-person schedule.
School districts across Long Island have seen coronavirus cases in the opening days and weeks of the new school year, including Mineola, Seaford, Syosset, Oyster Bay, New Hyde Park, Great Neck, Plainview and Hicksville.
