SOUPer Bowl XII To Name Best Local Soups In Port Washington

This year's event has added a "Kid's Choice Award," which will be determined by tasters under 12 years old.

Who has the best soup in Port Washington?

Residents are invited to find out by taste testing the best soups in the area to decide who will be the 2019 SOUPer Bowl Champ on Saturday.

Sixteen local restaurants and markets have entered the competition. Their soups range from a hearty white bean & kale to a tasty seafood chowder.

The event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church, located at 100 Fairway Drive.

To taste the plethora of soups, admission is $10 for adults and $3 fee for children under 12 at the door. Visitors will receive a hand stamp and a ballot. The hand stamp allows them to sample two ounces of each of the soups donated by the restaurants. The restaurants also provide bread and crackers for the tasters.

After trying all the soups, which come with bread and crackers, everyone can vote for their favorite. The soup with the most votes will receive the "People's Choice Award."

There will be a “Kids’ Choice Award” this year, which will be determined by tasters under 12 years old.

A select Judges' Panel of celebrities and culinary experts will also decide which soup will receive the "Judges' Choice Award." The panel will include award winning sports anchor Len Berman, celebrity chef and newscaster Julian Phillips, food consultant Christine Sanchez (former right hand to Bobby Flay, including working on Iron Chef America and being part of his B-Team. Currently Christine heads up relish consulting, a culinary consulting and instruction business), gourmet Anne Arter from Commissioner Sponsor Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty, gourmet Joseph Canigiani from Commissioner Sponsor Joseph N. Canigiani, Inc. and Geanna Johnson, a deaf-blind client from the Helen Keller National Center.
