Zeus needs a forever home

Will you give Zeus the chance he deserves ?

Meet this stunningly handsome boy Zeus! With his signature one ear up, one ear down look, he somehow STILL sits in a shelter kennel day after day waiting for someone to spare a glance at him, to make his dreams come true. Sadly, this cutie is the longest resident at The Shelter Connection in Port Washington, New York — sitting behind bars since 2011.

Zeus is a Pit-bull mix, around 10 years young, a goofy guy with a very loving personality; he is a big clown who loves hanging out with the shelter staff and volunteers. Zeus knows all of his basic commands and so much more! Zeus is an extremely well behaved boy who is waiting for the love of his life to walk through those shelter doors and take him home.

Zeus is a loving, beautiful soul, a guy who has been longing for a home to call his own for far too long. He would thrive in a home as the only pet, with a savvy dog experienced family. We know that needing to be an only pet makes it much more difficult to find a home, but we also have faith that there is a home out there that is just perfect for him. There must be someone out there who is the perfect match for this adorable guy who is looking for a fresh start, he is hoping to find the true love of his life! Although he needs to be your one and only, he is so full of life and love that he is all you will ever need!

When it comes to dogs who need to be only pets we need to think outside the box. Perhaps you or someone you know just bought a house for the first time and haven’t gotten a dog yet. Maybe you lost a beloved pet and are ready to fall in love again or are ready to see your child off to college. Your children may be moving out on their own and you have room for a new “kid” in the house. Zeus is the boy for you!

The shelter environment is intensely over-stimulating and detrimental to a dog’s long-term behavioral, mental, and emotional health. Too many animals are spending months or years languishing behind shelter walls. Even with the best and most well-intentioned care, a shelter is not a home!

Zeus does not “show well” in the kennel. When potential adopters walk by he leaps and barks and gives a completely different impression from the dog he really is. This kennel behavior is not uncommon, and you should not judge a dog based on this particular behavior. How would you feel or act if it was you in that kennel. Zeus is no different, he has feelings too. He just wants to be noticed, he’s begging for attention, he’s begging to get out and no one seems to understand – he just wants to be loved. The best thing to do is to contact the shelter, ask to meet him and have them bring Zeus outside, that’s where his true personality shines through.

No dog, especially a senior should be sitting behind shelter walls. If you are considering adding a furry member to your family, look into the eyes of the old and grey ones too. They need a soft place to fall, and you might just find something you didn’t even know you were looking for. There is just something ethereal about the beauty of a senior dog. The wisdom in their eyes, the confidence in their glance, and the tender unassuming way they love. All dogs are beautiful but senior dogs like Zeus have a way of touching our hearts in a way that changes everything. Won’t you please give Zeus the chance he deserves?

We are honestly at a loss for words when it comes to the heartbreak poor Zeus has experienced in his life; there really is no good reason for him to have grown up in a shelter. Zeus deserves better than this! This beautiful soul has spent his life behind bars and truly deserves a chance, won’t you please consider stepping up to help this handsome boy?

A special thank you goes out to Silent Voices Advocacy of the United Kingdom, for generously sponsoring Zeus’s adoption fees.
