2 People In Aluminum Boat Rescued On LI Sound: Police

The vessel was disabled and anchored due to the wind and current, police say.

WADING RIVER, NY —Two people in a 14-foot aluminum boat were rescued on the Long Island Sound Monday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, the incident took place at 5:09 p.m.; the two "appeared to be struggling" in the vessel, which was located a half-mile north of the Wading River beach on the Sound. The pair was in the boat, which was disabled and anchored due to the winds and current, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's dive team, the Wading River Fire Department, and the United States Coast Guard were notified, police said. The Riverhead dive team helped bring the two and their vessel safely back to shore; no injuries were reported, police said.
