Familiar North Fork Face New Assistant Principal In Riverhead
Dr. William Galati was principal of Southold Junior-Senior High School for nine years.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A familiar North Fork face has been appointed new assistant principal of Riverhead High School.
Dr. William R. Galati will take the helm as the new assistant principal of Riverhead High School, effective Aug. 2.
Galati, of St. James, joins Riverhead from the Hewlett-Woodmere Union Free School District, where he has served as high school principal since 2018.

At Hewlett-Woodmere, Galati fosteredd a “Challenge Up” vision and philosophy and worked to provide "positive and engaging" learning experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Riverhead Central School District said. He is also an adjunct professor of mathematics at Suffolk County Community College.
Prior to Hewlett-Woodmere, Galati was principal of Southold Junior-Senior High School for nine years. He also worked in the William Floyd Union Free School District in several administrative capacities, including assistant secondary administrator for instruction and administration and as the associate principal of William Paca Middle School. He began his career as a science teacher.

Galati joins Assistant Principals Kellyann Parlato and Nicole Taylor and Principal Sean O’Hara.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Galati to the district,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Augustine E. Tornatore. “We are positive the district will benefit from his appointment.”
Galati holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Mount St. Mary’s University, a master’s in liberal studies and mathematics from Stony Brook University, and a doctorate in educational administration and supervision from St. John’s University. He also holds dual certification in math and science, along with certification in earth science, biology, chemistry and general science.
“I greatly appreciate being selected for the assistant principal position at Riverhead High School,” said Galati. “I look forward to working collaboratively with the building and district administrative teams, along with our dedicated teachers, building stakeholders and families, to enrich, empower and prepare the students of Riverhead High School with the skills and learning needed to achieve in the 21st century and beyond.”
It was the dawn of a new day at the Riverhead Central School District recently when, during the annual reorganizational meeting, newly appointed Tornatore took the oath of office.
Also sworn in were returning board member Brian Connelly and new trustee Colin Palmer; Laurie Downs was elected and sworn in as board president for a second term, the district said.
