4 Men, Dog In Aluminum Boat Rescued From Long Island Sound

They were found trying to paddle the boat back to shore, police say.

WADING RIVER, NY —Four men and a dog in an aluminum boat were rescued from the Long Island Sound Sunday, police said.

According to Riverhead Police, a call came in at 5:13 p.m. about the four in distress, who were in a 10-foot aluminum vessel off Oak Lane in Wading River; the boat was about a half-mile offshore, police said.

When police arrived, they were seen trying to navigate the current and winds, police said.

No injuries were reported, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's dive team, as well as the Wading River and Rocky Point marine units, responded and helped bring the four, as well as their dog, to shore, police said.

The United States Coast Guard was notified, police said.
