WADING RIVER, NY — Long Island radio listeners got a weather broadcast with a twist recently as a talented Wading River elementary school student and "singing meteorologist" wowed her audience.

Adalyna Villa, who is in fifth grade at Wading River School, dressed for the snowstorm in winter gear and boots, then presented the weather forecast on WBLI Radio 106.1 in an "accurate and entertaining manner that even included some singing," the school district said.

Adalyna also made headlines last spring when she wrote a song with lyrics that reflected her feelings as a child living through the coronavirus pandemic and New York's stay-at-home directive, district officials added.

She wrote the lyrics for “Corona Craze” on her own and then shared it with Wading River School music teacher Mark Verity, who wrote and recorded a piano piece to accompany her vocal. Verity wrote the accompaniment for her after hearing her sing the song a cappella, then sent that recording back to the family, the district said. Her family then played the track while Adalyna sang the song.

Finally, Adalyna performed the song with the recorded music, creating the finished piece.
