Candidate Profile: Lori Hulse For Riverhead Town Justice

RIVERHEAD, NY — Suffolk County residents will be hitting the polls soon to elect local representatives.

The race is on in local town and village races leading up to Election Day, which, this year, falls on Tuesday, November 5. Patch asked those running for office to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles in the days leading up to the election.

Lori Hulse, 53, is an incumbent Republican who is also running for Riverhead Town Justice on the Independence and Conservative lines. She is running unopposed for the seat. She and her husband Michael have a son Cole and daughter Regan, both in college. Her husband works for the Town of Southold. She has a J.D from St. John’s University School of Law; a B.A. from St. John Fisher College and is a Riverhead High School alumni. She has been an attorney for 28 years, is currently serving as aRiverhead Town Justice and has served on the Riverhead Board of Education.

Patch: The single most pressing issue facing our community is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.

Hulse: I will continue to work with the town board to secure a new court facility. The immediate safety concerns with the current space are well documented and significant. I will continue to advocate, with Judge Smith, for a safe an affordable alternative.

P: What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

H: In the past four years as town justice, I started a night court to better serve non-attorney litigants in small claims matters. My initiatives also include on-line payment of parking tickets and computerizing the bench to schedule cases in a more efficient manner.
