East Hampton School Budget Gets Green Light

EAST HAMPTON, NY — Voters headed out to cast their votes Tuesday and after all was said and done, chose to pass the East Hampton Union Free School District's proposed 2018 to 2019 school budget of $69,846,198 by an overwhelmingly wide margin of 532 to 89.

The budget reflects a 2.25 percent increase, a tax rate increase of 1.63 percent, and a tax levy increase of 1.92 percent, within the tax levy cap.

Proposition #2 for land purchase and a new transportation facility was also green lighted, 459 to 158.

Three candidates vied for two open seats on the BOE, with winners Sarah Minardi receiving 467 votes and incumbent Christina DeSanti garnering 436. Jeffrey Erickson received 241 votes.

"We are mindful of the priorities our community has established to maintain programs and the appropriate staffing for our students, and we believe it is most important to keep the interests of our taxpayers in the forefront of our thinking. The Board of Education and I believe we can achieve these goals," said Richard J. Burns, Superintendent of Schools.
