'Incendiary Device' Thrown At Occupied Home Starts Fire: Police

Someone threw the device at the house and a window erupted into flames, police say.

WADING RIVER, NY — An incendiary device thrown at an occupied Wading River home caused a fire Monday night, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, the incident took place on Sound Road at 8 p.m.; a 911 caller and resident at the house reported that the fire had been extinguished before the call..

Patrol units determined that the fire had been deliberately set, police said.

Riverhead Police detectives and the Suffolk County Police Department's arson section responded and an investigation revealed that an unknown type of incendiary device had been thrown at the house while it was occupied by residents and that a fired erupted at one of the front windows, authorities said.

The fire had been contained to that area and immediately extinguished due to the quick response by the homeowner, police said.
