Large Brush Fire Breaks Out In Manorville

Firefighters began battling the blaze just after 4 p.m. Sunday, police say.

MANORVILLE, NY— A large brush fire broke out Sunday in Manorville not far from Calverton, officials said.

According to Suffolk County Police, smoke was reported in the vicinity of Halsey Manor Road at 4:23 p.m. A brush fire was discovered west of Toppings Path, police said. The fire was still burning at 7 p.m. and SCPD aviation was on the scene.

The Riverhead Fire Department, as well as Manorville, Wading River, and Flanders Fire Departments responded; at one point, the Riverhead Fire Department said, there were 15 trucks battling back the blaze, with more standing by.

Riverhead Police said the fire is not far from Calverton Hills.
