Large Diesel Fuel Spill Closes Part of Speonk Riverhead Road: PD

More than 100 gallons of diesel fuel fell onto the roadway, police say.

SPEONK, NY — A tank with more than 100 gallons of diesel fuel fell off a commercial vehicle in Speonk Monday, leading to a large spill, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, the incident took place at 5:08 p.m. on Speonk Riverhead Road when the tank became unsecured during transport and fell off the commercial flatbed.

Southampton Town Police, the Southampton Town fire marshal, the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department motor carrier unit, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and Eastport Fire Department officials were all at the scene.

Speonk Riverhead Road was partially closed as the investigation commenced, officials said.
