LI Group Home Evacuated Due To Excessive Heat
The problem was caused by a problem with the air-conditioning unit, which has hot air pouring out, officials say.
RIVERHEAD, NY — Residents of a Riverhead group home were evacuated Saturday night due to excessive heat pouring out of the vents, police said.
According to Riverhead Town Police, the incident took place at 11:35 p.m. at Concern for Independent Living on West Main Street; residents complained that the fourth floor was too hot and they were sweating excessively.
Riverhead police, along with the fire marshal and the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, responded and found temperatures on the fourth floor to be in excess of 90 degrees, with hot air was coming out of the vents.

Around 50 residents were evacuated from the building, police said.
Also assisting were Flanders Ambulance, Hampton Bays Ambulance, Westhampton Ambulance, East Quogue Ambulance, Suffolk County's medical emergency response vehicle, and the Red Cross, police said.

An emergency HVAC representative fixed the air conditioning unit and all residents were allowed back into the building, police said.
