Local Teacher A Finalist In Contest To Win $1,500 For Classroom

Monday is the last day to vote for Daniel Casamassa and give him the chance to win $1,500 for his 5th-grade classroom, the district says.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A local teacher is a finalist in a contest to win a $1,500 grant for his fifth-grade classroom.

Daniel Casamassa, a fifth-grade teacher at Pulaski Street Elementary School in the Riverhead Central School District, has been named one of three finalists in the K to 5 category of the Teachers Federal Credit Union’s "favorite teacher "contest, the district said.

Casamassa's student Dylan Doucette submitted an essay to the contest that praised his teacher. Casamassa was described as a teacher who inspires his students both in and out of school, keeping them motivated through rewards and annual reunions, the district said.
