Man Charged With DWI On Father's Day Had Son, 2, In Car: Police

RIVERHEAD, NY — A man was charged with driving while intoxicated with his two-year-old son in the vehicle on Father's Day in Riverhead, police said.

Denis Perez-Flores, 27, of Central Islip was arrested and charged with Leandra's Law DWI, endangering the welfare of a child, and operating a vehicle without a valid license, Riverhead police said.

The incident took place Sunday at 7:02 p.m. when both Riverhead and Southold Police received calls about a driver failing to maintain his lane of travel while heading west on Sound Avenue, police said.

Riverhead police located the vehicle on Sound Ave. in the area of Northville Turnpike, police said.

Perez-Flores was held for arraignment in Riverhead Justice Court; the child was turned over to his mother, police said.
