Man Charged With Slashing Tires In Riverhead: Police

He slashed the tires on at least 10 different vehicles parked in the area, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Riverhead man was arrested and charged with slashing tires on at least 10 parked vehicles Tuesday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, Willie E. Hopkins, 42, was arrested at 11 p.m. and charged with three counts of third-degree criminal mischief, a felony.

On Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., Riverhead police responded to West Second Street after receiving a call about a man acting suspiciously around several parked vehicles, police said.

Based on witness accounts, responding officers found the man a short distance away on Railroad Avenue, police said.

Hopkins was later released on an appearance ticket with a future court date; additional charges related to the incident may follow, police said.
