Man With Handgun, Impaired By Drugs, Flees Crash: Police
The Riverhead man blew through a stop sign, leading to a three-car crash with a Center Moriches woman and an elderly Calverton man: police.
RIVERHEAD, NY — A Riverhead man was charged with driving with a handgun while impaired by drugs and fleeing the scene of a three-way crash Thursday, police said.
According to Riverhead Town Police, the crash took place at the intersection of Pulaski Street and J. T. Boulevard at 3:07 p.m.
Andre Baskin was arrested and charged with two counts of third degree criminal possession of a weapon; driving while ability impaired by drugs; and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.

Baskin was heading north in a 2010 Cadillac with a male passenger when he failed to yield for a stop sign at the intersection and entered into the eastbound lane of Pulaski Street, where his vehicle was struck by a 2017 Chevrolet, driven by a 31-year old Center Moriches woman, police said.
The Chevrolet then entered the westbound lane on Pulaski Street, where it collided with a westbound 2016 Kia, driven by a 92-year old Calverton man and his male passenger, police said.

Baskin's passenger was extricated from the vehicle by the Riverhead Fire Department and transported to the Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The Center Moriches woman, the Calverton man, and his passenger were also all transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Baskin was seen in possession of a handgun at the scene; he fled the area, police said. He was followed by officers and located on Industrial Boulevard in Riverhead with a 40-caliber handgun and two loaded magazines, police said.
