Man Robs Riverhead 7-Eleven: Police
The Mastic Beach man was found and arrested after the robbery, police say.
RIVERHEAD, NY — A Mastic Beach man was arrested Saturday and charged with robbing a Riverhead 7-Eleven, police said.
Jeffrey D. Pittman, 51, was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree robbery, Riverhead Police said.
According to Riverhead Police, a call came in at 3:58 a.m. about a robbery at the 7-Eleven on West Main Street. An overnight shift employee of 7-Eleven reported that Pittman entered the store, walked to the cash register area, asked the store employee for a pack of cigars and cigarettes, and then, while displaying through the inside of his sweatshirt front pocket what appeared to be some type of weapon, possibly a handgun, demanded that the employee open the cash registers and give him the money, police said.

The man took the money, left the store, and fled on foot, heading east on West Main Street, police said. Riverhead detectives located a man matching the description given on East Main Street; the proceeds of the robbery and the item displayed in the sweatshirt and made to appear as a weapon were recovered, police said.
Pittman was processed on the robbery charge and held for arraignment, police said.
