This evening, and this Saturday and Sunday afternoon, the North Fork Breast Health Coalition will continue to hold a socially distanced Pink Pearl Raffle at their freshly sanitized office on 185 Old Country Road, Suite 6, Riverhead. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the newly created Stage IV Research and Grant Fund.

Visitors who drop by the office will be greeted by enthusiastic NFBHC volunteers who will sell tickets at the door. The pricing is 25 raffle tickets for $20, 75 tickets for $50 and 175 tickets for $100. A few supporters at a time will be free to enjoy perusing several dozen valuable gift baskets and prizes on display.

“Our annual Pink Pearl Gala has been rescheduled to April of 2022, so the Pink Pearl Raffle is an important fundraiser to kick off our new Stage IV Research and Grant Fund. We want to expand our mission to not only provide additional support to metastatic breast cancer patients, but also to provide direct funding to oncologists with cutting-edge research labs that are working on extending the lives of East End patients,” says Melanie McEvoy, vice president of the North Fork Breast Health Coalition.

The North Fork Breast Health Coalition is currently led by President Susan Ruffini. The all-volunteer, nonprofit organization supports local breast-cancer patients with programs such as Helping Hand grants. The group also provides free services such as gentle yoga, reflexology, meditation class and massage therapy to breast-cancer patients and survivors. However, during the health crisis, only gentle yoga is available via Zoom.

Ann Cotten-DeGrasse and her late husband, Antonio, founded NFBHC in 1998 because they saw a great need for such an organization on the North Fork, where there is an especially high rate of diagnosis of the disease. A retired teacher, Ann has also served as president of the Riverhead School Board. The gala, and now the raffle, was named for the late Pearl Philindas, past president of the coalition.
