Only 1 in 5 Taxicab Companies In Compliance In Riverhead: Police
Summonses and a violation were issued after the recent compliance enforcement, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Only one out of five taxicab companies inspected recently was in compliance with Riverhead town code and state regulations, police said.
According to Riverhead Police, on Wednesday, the police department's community-oriented policing enforcement, or COPE, unit conducted a townwide taxicab compliance enforcement effort.
The goal was to maintain public safety by putting the brakes on the illegal operation of non-permitted vehicles and ensuring compliance with town code and vehicle and traffic laws, police said.
