Pedestrian Dies In Riverhead Crash; Driver Charged With DWI
Matthew Nemschick, 54, of Mattituck, was intoxicated when he struck a pedestrian on West Main Street, police said.
RIVERHEAD, NY — A Mattituck man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after striking a pedestrian who later died in Riverhead Thursday, police said.
Matthew Nemschick, 54, was arrested at the scene and transported to Riverhead police headquarters, authorities said.
The crash happened Thursday at 10:05 p.m. on West Main Street, police said. The pedestrian was found in serious condition and transported by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where the person was pronounced dead.
