Driver, 77, Who Struck, Killed Pedestrian Identified: PD

The crash took place Thursday night in Manorville; the pedestrian has not yet been identified, police say.

MANORVILLE, NY – A driver who struck and killed a pedestrian in a Manorville crash Thursday night has been identified as Thomas Wisniewski, 77, of Moriches, police said.

According to Suffolk County Police, the single-vehicle crash took place at 8:53 p.m.; Wisniewski was driving a 2016 Mazda northbound on Route 111, just north of Chapman Boulevard, when his vehicle struck a man who was crossing the road.

The man, who has yet to be identified by police, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

No charges were filed in the crash, police said.

Wisniewski and his female passenger were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead for treatment, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
