Baby Choking On Lego Saved By Police Officer At LI Daycare
Sgt. Jill Kubetz performed back thrusts to dislodge a Lego piece from a choking infant, authorities said.
RIVERHEAD, NY — A police officer saved a baby choking on a Lego piece at a Riverhead day care Monday, authorities said.
The Riverhead Town Police Department said they received a call at 8:49 a.m. that the infant was choking at the Pine Tree Day Nursery on Roanoke Avenue.
Police Sgt. Jill Kubetz arrived within one minute of the call and realized the baby's airway was fully blocked, police said. She performed back thrusts, which dislodged the 2-inch Lego piece from the child's lower airway, police said. The Lego moved enough to allow for limited airflow, police said.
