Riverhead High School Forward Signs to Play at Dowling College

Riverhead High School varsity soccer player Anthony Antunes from Wading River signed to play Men’s Soccer with Dowling College earlier last week.

According to Assistant Coach Andrew Aleksandrowicz was a four-year starter and played forward on this year’s team, finishing the season with 11 goals and 6 assists.

He was awarded the All-League honors this season and All-Conference honors last season by the Suffolk County Boy’s Soccer Coaches Association.

“I got a lot of emails and phone calls from a number of colleges, but when Dowling’s coach was the only one to come see me play in the pouring rain and offered me a combination of academic and athletic scholarships, I decided that was where I wanted to play,” Anthony said. “Playing under Coach Traore, who attended Dowling and was an All-American and the leading scorer in the nation, made me think maybe I could follow in his footsteps and do the same.”

Head Coach Lamine Traore is also convinced of Anthony’s potential as a college player.

“Anthony is a lethal striker, whose abilities helped us win lot of games during his playing time for Riverhead and throughout his high school soccer career,” Coach Traore said. “He scored numerous important goals for us. As one of the team captains, he led his team by example on and off the field, and always demonstrated a level of respect and consideration that was reciprocated to us by the opposing teams.”

Anthony is undecided about his major at this time, but his goal is to play professional soccer after college.
