Senior Semifinalist In 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program

SHOREHAM-WADING RIVER, NY — A Shoreham-Wading River High School senior has made his hometown proud.

Daniel Julian has qualified as a semifinalist in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program, the district said.

According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, Dan’s standing in the competition could not be determined in time to be included in the published names of semifinalists originally sent to high schools in late August, district officials said.

Dan now has the opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million offered next spring, district officials said.

To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, he must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition, the district said.

More than 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and more than half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title, the district said.
