Woman Carjacked At Gunpoint In LI Store Parking Lot: Cops

The woman was sitting in a shopping center parking lot when a man robbed her of her car and wallet at gunpoint, police said.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A woman was carjacked at gunpoint in a Riverhead parking lot early Sunday morning, police said.

According to Riverhead Police, the incident took place at 4:08 a.m. outside the TJ Maxx store on Old Country Road; a store manager notified police that one of their employees had just been robbed, police said. Police said although the store was closed, employees were there during the night doing inventory.

A 22-year-old woman said while she was sitting inside her four-door, gray 2019 Audi in the parking lot, an unknown man brandishing a silver handgun demanded her wallet and everything she had, police said.

She got out of her vehicle and the robber took it and drove out of the parking lot and onto Old Country Road, heading west, police said. A search of area roads for the vehicle was unsuccessful; personal belongings were located by police along Old Country Road heading west, police said.

Surrounding police jurisdictions were notified to be on the lookout for the stolen vehicle, police said.
