16-Year-Old Strikes Staff in Face With Lamp

The Children's Village resident was charged with assault in the second degree, a class D felony.

A 16-year-old student is facing felony assault charges and is accused of hitting a Children’s Village staff member in the face with a metal lamp.

Police said that the Children’s Village resident was arguing with a 54-year-old staff member from White Plains about going to school on Feb. 5 around 9:10 a.m. when things turned violent in the Minturn Cottage.

He is accused of going on a rampage and knocking over filing cabinets, garbage cans, planters and other items in the room. When the staff member tried to restrain the 16-year-old, he allegedly hit him with the lamp causing lacerations to the 54-year-old's forehead.

The staff member was sent by ambulance to Dobbs Ferry Hospital. The 16-year-old was charged with assault in the second degree, a class D felony; was arraigned and sent back to Children’s Village.
