In-Home Vaccination Program Offered In NY's Coronavirus Fight

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — In the ongoing effort to fight the coronavirus, New York has launched an in-home vaccination program for those who are unable to travel to receive a shot, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said this week.

"Part of NY's vaccine distribution is ensuring no New Yorker is left behind," Cuomo tweeted.

According to Cuomo, vaccinating all New Yorkers is essential to restarting the economy and defeating the virus. However, not everyone is able to travel to vaccination sites, he said.

New York, in partnership with counties, has established local points of contact to expand access to vaccines through a new in-home vaccination program for those who are "homebound due to physical limitations, cognitive impairment, other chronic conditions, a lack of transportation, and/or visual impairments, and who do not have access to supports that may help them physically go to an existing vaccination provider," the state's site explaining the program said.

On Tuesday, New York's seven-day positivity rate stood at 0.58 percent, with 70 percent of all eligible New Yorkers — those 12 and older — having received at least one vaccine dose, Cuomo said.

"We continue to fight this virus by making sure every single eligible New Yorker gets vaccinated for COVID-19, and our state's ability to beat it for good depends on getting shots in arms," he said.
