Ardsley High School Asian Student Union Organizes Community Rally

The March 20 event at Pascone Park will raise awareness about the increase in physical and verbal attacks against people of Asian descent.

The Ardsley High School Asian Students Union Club, with the support of the Ardsley Multicultural, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, will lead a rally to raise awareness about the sharp increase in physical and verbal attacks against people of Asian descent that has occurred nationwide over the past year.

The community event will be staged at noon, Saturday March 20 at the Louis Pascone Memorial Park, Ardsley. The rain date is noon, Sunday, March 21.

Megha Ravi, 16, President of the school’s Asian Students Union Club, says that a group of Asian students will be the focus of the program who will uplift their voices by reading poems relating their personal experiences with discrimination and present music performances.

The program will not only call attention to the alarming spike in attacks against Asian Americans but also address how racism against Asians has always existed throughout American history and, as other ethnic groups have experienced, is manifested with hate crimes, racial slurs and stereotypes.

Ardsley Mayor Nancy Kaboolian and Dr. Ryan Schoenfeld, Superintendent, Ardsley Union Free School District and other officials have been invited to speak.
