Construction Delayed, Dobbs to Hold Graduation at Waterfront

Dobbs Ferry School District has announced that the 2013 commencement ceremony will be held at Waterfront Park.

Construction at Dobbs Ferry's Waterfront Park, that would have forced the school district to have its 2013 commencement ceremony at a different location, will be delayed for the spring.

"This will allow the district to hold our graduation ceremony in the beautiful tradition that our families have come to love and expect," read a post from Dobbs Ferry High School's Facebook page Monday.

The school district said it was notifed of the news by the Village and will now hold graduation on June 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the park at 1 High St. "where everyone can enjoy the magnificent view of the Hudson River while celebrating this momentous occasion with the Class of 2013."

Village Administrator Marcus Serrano said that Westchester County is still working on its specifications for the park's upland improvements, which includes pathways throughout the park, lighting, benches, a new restroom facility and trees.

The waterfront stablization portion of work is 95 percent done and will be completed in the next two months. A fishing pier and boat dock will be completed by June or July. Serrano said this portion of the work is north and south of the graduation area and done offshore so that it won't affect the commencement.

It was announced in February that Mercy College stepped in to offer its new athletic turf field, which also overlooks the Hudson River, as a place to hold the commencement ceremony after the Village told the school district that work on the waterfront would prevent the park from being available.
