Guilty Plea In Fatal Dobbs Ferry Hit-And-Run

Rocco DePaolo, 91, was walking home from a football game when he was struck by a car that left the scene.

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, NY — A Hastings man who was accused of killing an elderly Dobbs Ferry man in a hit-and-run crash admitted his guilt in court Tuesday.

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said Johnny Machado, 28, of Hastings-on-Hudson, pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident without reporting and criminally negligent homicide, both felonies.

He is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 25.

According to prosecutors, on Sept. 20, 2019, Machado drove near Dobbs Ferry High School on Broadway, Route 9, in Dobbs Ferry when his car struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk.

Rocco DePaolo, 91, had been attending a high school football game and was walking home around 9:25 p.m. when he was hit.

DePaolo was taken to Westchester Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

Machado drove away after hitting DePaolo, police said.
