Indictment In Dobbs Ferry Fatal Hit-And-Run

The elderly man who was died was walking home from a football game.

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, NY — An indictment was handed down in a hit-and-run crash that killed an elderly Dobbs Ferry man in September. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said Johnny David Machado, 27, of Hastings-on-Hudson, was arraigned on the following charges:

  • Leaving the scene of an accident without reporting, a felony
  • Criminally negligent homicide, a felony

Machado was released on his own recognizance. His next court appearance is set for March 3.

Prosecutors said, on Sept. 20, Machado drove near Dobbs Ferry High School on Broadway in Dobbs Ferry when his car struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk.

Rocco DePaolo, 91, was attending a high school football game and was walking home around 9:25 p.m. when he was struck by Machado's car, police said.

DePaolo was taken to Westchester Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

Police said Machado drove away after hitting DePaolo.
