Mastermind in Hastings Home Invasion Convicted

A Bronx man who was the mastermind in a January 2012 home invasion—where a Hastings-on-Hudson family was targeted, tied up in their home and held at gunpoint while they were robbed of $7,000—has been convicted for the crime.

Richard Vale, 46, of the Bronx has been convicted on the following charges: 

• One count of robbery in the first degree, a class “B” violent felony
• Two counts of burglary in the first degree, class “B” violent felonies
• One count of criminal use of a firearm in the first degree, a class “B” felony
• Two counts of burglary in the second degree, class “C” felonies
• One count of attempted robbery in the first degree, a class “C” felony
• One count of attempted robbery in the second degree, a class “D” felony
• One count of grand larceny in the third degree, a class “D” felony
• One count of criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, a class “D” felony

His accomplices, 62-year-old Eugene Lorino and Carlos Burgos, 45, both also from the Bronx pleaded guilty in 2012 to one count of burglary in the second degree, a class "C" felony, and one count of burglary in the first degree, a class "B" felony, respectively.

“These three defendants who perpetrated this brutal and violent home invasion have been held accountable thanks to the seamless cooperation by multiple law enforcement agencies in Westchester who were able to respond, gather evidence, investigate, analyze and interpret information from the crime, ultimately leading to arresting, charging and convicting these individuals,” said District Attorney Janet DiFiore.

Vale will be sentenced on May 23 and could face a maximum of 25 years in prison.
