Alex Holdstein of Hastings-on-Hudson and the University of Hartford men's tennis team was selected to the 2013 America East All-Academic squads, with a 3.77 grade point average. During the spring tennis season, he posted a 3-1 record in singles play, and four victories in dual-match doubles play.
The All-Academic squads are chosen by faculty representatives and athletics directors from each of the conference's nine member institutions, who decide to honor the league's top student-athletes, who excel equally in the classroom as they do on the playing field. Congratulations Alex! Â
At the Last Chance track and field meet, held on May 13 at Swarthmore College, Julian Saliani of Irvington and Johns Hopkins finished 48th of 78 runners in the men's 1,500 race, with a time of 4:03.27. It was a non-scoring event. Â
Yolanda Jones of Hastings-on-Hudson and Virginia University of Lynchburg, in the USCAA National Softball Tournament in Akron Ohio, lost in the opener on May 13 11-3, with the keeper of the hot corner having five putouts at third base in game with Penn-Beaver, while in the second and first consolation game that afternoon, in the 11-1 defeat by St. Mary of the Wood, she had four putouts and one assist.
On May 14, in the second consolation game as well as the season ender with Penn State-Mont Alto, another 11-3 loss, Jones had out putouts. The Lady Dragon's record on the season was 16-21.
