Rivertowns to Accept Federated Conservationists Award

The organization will recognize the Hastings High School Envirothon team, and the Irvington and Yonkers Green Policy Task Forces at their annual meeting on June 13.

Three Rivertowns groups will be given the green thumbs up by the Federated Conservationists of Westchester County (FCWC) for their efforts on behalf of the environment.

The Hastings High School Envirothon team and the Irvington and Yonkers Green Task Forces will be honored at the environmental conservation non-profit’s 48th annual meeting on June 14 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

“We are recognizing the Hasting High School Envirothon team because for the second year in a row, they have been the Westchester County winner of the Hudson Valley Regional Envirothon, an annual competition that encourages students to learn about the natural environment and to become good stewards of the land,” Ryan Rafferty an intern with FCWC.

The Irvington Green Policy Task Force is being noted for its “Love ‘Em and Leave ‘Em” initiative to mulch leaves in place, while the Yonkers Green Policy Task Force is being applauded for its work with Yonkers City County on initiatives like the steep slopes ordinance.

“For the Green Policy Task Forces (GPTF), we are honoring them because of their involvement in advising, encouraging and implementing environmental initiatives in their respective municipalities,” said Rafferty. “This year, FCWC will present our Green Seal Award to two of Westchester’s GPTFs.”

A picnic supper is included with the $25 event registration fee. The cost is $15 for students. All members and friends are invited and can register by June 7 at (914) 422-4053 or at fcwc.org/events.
