Substitute Teacher Accused Of Stalking Student

A 17-year-old student was made uncomfortable by the messages the sub sent, authorities said.

IRVINGTON, NY — An Irvington man who was a substitute teacher in White Plains was accused of stalking a teenage student. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said Craig Rosenberg, 56, of Irvington, was charged with fourth-degree stalking, a misdemeanor.

He appeared in Westchester County Court Emergency Part via video conference Thursday before White Plains City Court Judge John Collins and was released on his own recognizance to return to court June 16.

Rosenberg resigned earlier as a per diem substitute in the White Plains School District.

Authorities said he was a substitute teacher at White Plains High School.

When schools closed due to the pandemic, prosecutors said, he began to send text messages and direct messages to students via Instagram and a school application.

Rosenberg also began to send non-school-related messages to a 17-year-old student, who was made uncomfortable by the messages.

With the support of the student's parents, the student told Rosenberg to stop and blocked him on all media. The parents contacted White Plains police who notified Rosenberg to stop communications with the student.

They also reported the teacher to White Plains High School, and the district also contacted the police.

After being blocked, police said, Rosenberg continued to try to learn more about the targeted student by reaching out to other students who were friends, asking them to pass his messages along.

White Plains Police Department arrested Rosenberg Wednesday.
