B. Dougan and Surless pull off 8 second magic vs Levittown/Hicksville

RVC/Malverne Ice Hockey team pulls off incredible victory with 8 seconds left in the game.

In a back and forth close contest between RVC/Malverne Varsity Hockey team vs Levittown/Hicksville. The RVC Cyclones pull out a stunning victory with a short-handed goal with only 8 seconds left in the game. The scoring started at 8:30 of the first period on a goal by Ryan Chelius assisted by Andrew Cardi. Approximately 3:00 minutes later Levittown/Hicksville scored to tie the game at 1, both were even strength goals. With 2:37 left in the first period RVC scores it’s second goal on a power play by James Surless assisted by Brett Dougan to take a 2-1 lead ending the first period.

Starting the second period RVC’s James Surless was called for tripping at 12:45. Special teams have been solid thus far for the Cyclones going this season and the goaltending of Jason Posner has been superb. Unfortunately for the Cyclones, Levittown/Hicksville broke thru at 11:17 to score and tie the game at 2.

Going into the third period Jason Posner made several great saves to keep the score close. But at 8:20 of the third Levittown/Hicksville managed to score their 3rd goal of the game and take a 3-2 lead. By this time the Cyclones defense started to tier but they continued their fight to keep Levittown/Hicksville offense in check. As time wined down the team dug deep to muster up some extra effort and with 3:33 left in the third period the magic began. Ryan Chelius batted home the equalizer knocking a pass from Brett Dougan out of the air into the back of the net. Both teams battled back and forth for the entire third period but the advantage swung to Levittown when AJ Sandorfi was called for slashing at 1:44 left in the game. The Levittown/Hicksville team took a time out at this point; the RVC Cyclones used their time out earlier in the period. The timeout came as a relief for the Cyclones players, especially when they had to kill a penalty to walk away with a tie. With a minute 1:44 left in the period the Cyclones special teams rose to the occasion keeping Levittown out of sync for most of their power play. Brett Dougan’s outstanding effort on the forecheck paid huge dividends when he forced a turnover deep in the Levittown zone and backhanded a perfect pass to James Surless in the slot who buried the game winner with 8 seconds left on the clock. Every member of the Cyclone team played a role in tonights victory and the positive team energy builds with each game played. The Cyclones defenses again were magnificent and the great goal tending ability of Jason Posner earned him the team victory fedora to wear in the locker room. The Cyclones killed 4 out of 5 penalties during the game. The newest member of the Cyclones, Robert Chesney played an outstanding game on defense and looks to be huge addition to the team.
