County to Place Emergency Supply Trailer at Rec Center

Nassau County will place a trailer filled with emergency supplies in the parking lot of the Rockville Centre Recreation Center.

The primary function of the Office of Emergency Management’s Disaster Response and Relief Trailer is to ensure the immediate availability of first aid, shelter and hygiene resources to residents and first responders in the event of future health and environmental hazards, according to the county. The placement of the trailer is in response to Superstorm Sandy.

“This allocation of resources is crucial to Nassau County's aggressively proactive approach to future natural and made-made disasters,” County Executive Edward Mangano said. “In the event of catastrophe, we anticipate having the disaster relief trailer in Rockville Centre will serve as an easy point of access for crucial recovery and relief resources.”

Trailers have been deployed throughout the county. Each trailer is equipped with cots, blankets, linens, and various hygiene supplies. OEM made use of these trailers in the days and weeks following Hurricane Sandy as the county aided thousands of residents.

“While we cannot prevent hurricanes and nor’easters from impacting our great village, we can prepare for them,” Mayor Francis X. Murray said. “This trailer will serve our residents and surrounding communities as an easy point of access for crucial recovery and relief resources.”
