Crime Watch: RVC Man Arrested, Restaurant Damaged

Recent police activity as reported by the RVCPD.

The following information was supplied by the Rockville Centre Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Arrests

  • On Aug. 1 at 7:46 p.m., Vincent J. O’Brien, 44, of Rockville Centre, was arrested for criminal obstruction of breathing and menacing in the third degree following an investigation by police personnel at his residence on Vernon Avenue.

  • On Aug. 1 at 3:40 p.m., Stephen Todd Lavenda, 49, of Roosevelt, was arrested for theft of services following an investigation by police personnel on Merrick Road in Rockville Centre.

    • On Aug. 2 at 2:15 p.m., a tree worker reported a parked vehicle was damaged by a falling branch on Brower Avenue in Rockville Centre.

    • On Aug. 3 at 6 a.m., a restaurant owner on Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre reported two front windows were damaged by unknown means.

  • On Aug. 3 at 12:50 p.m., an employee at a credit union on Merrick Road in Rockville Centre reported her vehicle door was damaged while it was parked in the lot.

  • Larceny

    • On July 30 at 8:59 p.m., an employee at a pharmacy/retail store on Merrick Road in Rockville Centre reported the theft of baby formula.

    • On Aug. 4 at 8:50 a.m., a motorist reported the theft of a GPS unit from her unlocked vehicle while it was parked on Clinton Avenue in Rockville Centre.

    Identity Theft

    • On July 29 at 10:17 p.m., a Rockville Centre resident reported an unknown person opened two Verizon cell phone accounts using his personal information without authorization.

    • On Aug. 2 at 9:30 p.m., a Rockville Centre resident reported an unknown person used his credit card number to make unauthorized purchases.

    Leaving the Scene of an Auto Accident

    • On Aug. 3 at 8:30 p.m., a West Hempstead resident reported her 2008 Jeep was struck by another vehicle that left the scene while it was parked on Merrick Road in Rockville Centre.

    • On Aug. 4 at 1:35 a.m., a taxi driver reported being involved in a collision with another vehicle that left the scene on Merrick Road near N. Village Avenue in Rockville Centre.

    Forgery

    • On July 29 at 5:26 p.m., a manager at a pharmacy/retail store on Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre reported two unknown males purchased PayPal prepaid cards with counterfeit bills.
