Father Drowns At Hempstead Lake Park While On Water With Kids

The 39-year-old's two children were not hurt, state police said.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — A father drowned at Hempstead Lake Park on Sunday, New York State Police said.

Jing Li, 39, from Flushing, was paddleboarding with his two young children just before 6 p.m. when his boat capsized, police said. Li was found near the lake a short time later and pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Li's two children were rescued and brought to the shore by a good Samaritan in a kayak, police said. They were not injured.

Rockville Centre police, the Nassau County Police Aviation Unit and the Freeport Fire Department assisted at the scene.
