Kitchen Fire Ignites in Lincoln Ave. Home

Officials said no one was home, but two firefighters suffered from heat exhaustion.

A kitchen fire broke out at 23 Lincoln Ave. on Tuesday morning, spreading to an adjacent bedroom before firefighters extinguished it, officials said.

No one was hurt in the blaze, fire officials said, but two firefighters suffered heat exhaustion. The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze, but early indicators point to the fire being electrical in nature.

The homeowners were at work and a dog inside the house was rescued from the fire.

According to Rockville Centre Fire Department First Assistant Chief John Thorp, when he arrived on the scene at 10:45 a.m., heavy smoke was pouring out of the front door of the house. When he reached the home's kitchen, Thorp said the fire was spreading across the kitchen ceiling and into an adjacent bedroom.

Smoke had also made its way to the home's attic, so Thorp said firefighters began pulling down ceilings and walls to make sure the flames weren't spreading.

Thorp added that firefighters extinguished the fire in roughly 20 minutes.

Lincoln Avenue was shut down for nearly two hours, as the Rockville Centre was also suffering from a village-wide blackout. Officials said the fire did not cause the blackout.
