Those looking to celebrate Halloween with scares have no shortage of venues to find their screams this year.
Long Island is full of haunted houses and other spooky attractions. We've compiled a list of attractions that range from creepy to downright terrifying. And for even more, visit LIHauntedHouses.com's Haunted House Guide.

Crypts of the Coliseum
1255 Hempstead Turnpike, Uniondale (Nassau Coliseum)
This year, the place to be seems like it’s going to be Nassau Coliseum, as Blood Manor, one of New York City’s most popular and terrifying haunted attractions, turns the arena into the Crypts of the Coliseum once again.

Crypts of the Coliseum will feature terrifying creatures of the night lurking at every corner as visitors travel through the 10,000 square foot maze of corridors, chambers and hidden places. Several new characters have joined Blood Manor's "League of the Undead" and are anxiously awaiting their chance to terrorize all visitors with new scares and surprises.
Tickets for the experience are $30, or $50 for the RIP package. The attraction will be open from Oct. 5 through Nov. 3.
Hempstead House Haunt: Vampyres' Lair
127 Middle Neck Road, Sands Point
At Halloween this year, Hempstead House will be transformed into a centuries-old Vampyres’ Lair. Venture into their sanctuary for a terrifying experience that may change you forever. Every guest in this frightful immersive experience will come face to face with elusive vampyres, their dutiful servants and other nocturnal creatures at every turn. Some are grotesquely beautiful, others are monstrously hideous – all of whom desire your blood!
Navigate through dimly lit hallways, secret rooms, and crypts in this hauntingly exquisite journey. The atmospheric installations are specially created so that you play a unique role in the evening’s story. It is up to you to explore and interpret each room; what you learn may shed light in this massive dark mansion – to help you to find your escape route out of the Vampyres’ Lair!
This attraction is open for six nights only: Oct. 25, 26, 28, 29, 30 and 31 from 7 to 11 p.m. Children under 12 are not allowed, and children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent at all times. Tickets are $30 for conservancy members and $35 for non-members.
Bayville Scream Park
8 Bayville Ave., Bayville
The Bayville Scream Park is a Halloween theme park. It features attractions like The Temple of Terror, Uncle Needle’s Funhouse of Fear, Cures of the Zombie Pirates and more. It has been named the scariest haunted house on Long Island many times. New for 2018 is the Haunted Asylum.
Ticket prices vary, but the pass for all six attractions is $49.75. It also features “Not So Scary” days on the weekends for kids and families. The box office opens at 6 p.m. every day and the attractions open at 7 p.m. The park is open from Sept. 28 through Nov. 4.
Horse Ability’s Haunted Hay Barn
223 Store Hill Road, Old Westbury (SUNY Old Westbury Campus)
Come on down for a frightful night roaming the many creepy rooms, sure to hit a nerve with any and all of your deepest fears. The Hay Barn takes place in the historic 1912 Broad Hollow Barn that has a few more ghosts and ghouls in it than the ones we brought in. The event is created with some of the twisted minds that brought us the Bayville Haunted Fire House.
The attraction costs $13 per person, and the ticket booth is open from 6 to 10:30 p.m. It’s open Oct. 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28. The haunt is suggest for children 10 and older, and is handicap accessible. All funds raised go directly into HorseAbility, 501c3 not-for-profit organization that provides equine facilitated programs to children and adults with special needs.
Restless Souls Haunted House Complex
301 West Hills Road, Huntington Station
The Haunted House Complex offers four different, horrifying attractions. The Haunted Attractions utilize a time-tested combination of interactive and up-close actors, Hollywood-quality props and audio-animatronics, elaborate sets and controlled lighting and audio design to ensure your time with the creatures is as immersive and realistic as can be.
The attractions feature The Shack, The Dark Colony, Klownkatraz 3D and the terrifying File Frenzy Escape Room.
Tickets for all four attractions are $27. Admission to just The Shack is $10, and all others are $7. The attraction is open Fridays and Saturdays from 6 to 10 p.m., and Sundays from 5 to 9 p.m. starting Oct. 12.
Darkside Haunted House
5184 NY-25A, Wading River
The Darkside Haunted House is Long Island's premier haunted attraction. This year is bigger and scarier than ever. Come make your way through the newly expanded haunted village. Then the terror continues as you make your way through the new, updated haunted house. Come experience the movie-quality sets, the bone-chilling special effects and the heart-pounding scares that make the Darkside Haunted House the place to be.
The nighttime attractions are open on varying days through October. Check the website for details. Tickets for the nighttime attractions are $30, or $40 for the RIP Fast Pass.
Chamber of Horrors NY
1745 Express Drive North, Hauppauge
The Chamber of Horrors is one of Long Island’s most popular haunted houses. This year, there are four attractions. The Board Room is a live stage show that puts audiences in the middle of the chaos. Guests will be treated to a show that explains the backstories and characters behind all three haunted houses being featured this year. The show includes gory visuals, intense audio, live actors, special fx and more. There are also three haunted houses: Dead End Breakfast, Industrial Laughter and Carnage.
The show is open on varying nights from Sept. 28 through Oct. 31. Oct. 25 is Kill the Lights Night, and Oct. 31 is Full Contact Night. Standard tickets are $35, and the RIP Pass is $45.
Gateway’s Haunted Playhouse
215 South Country Road, Bellport
The Haunted Playhouse, one of the scariest haunted houses on Long Island. It features a professional set and costumes, as well as fantastic actors who draw you into the horror -- for better or worse.
It’s open multiple days from Sept. 28 through Nov. 3, with some times being less scary for children. Tickets are $30 online and $35 at the door, and $40 and $45 for the Fast Pass Admission.
The Haunted Mansion of Melville
26 Pinelawn Road, Melville
Voted one of the scariest haunted houses on Long Island, the Schmitts Farm Haunted House has been running for more than 20 years. Try to survive the haunted mansion, where a crazed doctor performed horrifying experiments. Then, try to survive the haunted corn maze.
The haunt is open select days throughout October. Check the website for exact dates. Tickets for the Haunted Mansion are $25, and the Haunted Corn Trail is $15. Combo tickets for both are $35.
Darkness Rising
450 Commack Road, Deer Park
After four years, one of Long Island’s scariest haunts is back! Located in a new, larger building in Deer Park, Darkness Rising will have you running for the light.
Admission is $25 per person. The haunt is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in October, Oct. 25 and on Halloween, as well as Nov. 2 and 3. On Oct. 5 and 6, there will be a $15 preview. Some effects may not be perfect and the show will be shorter for the preview.
North Patchogue Fire Department House of Horrors
33 Davidson Ave., North Patchogue
This year, come out to one of Long Island's newest, and scariest, haunts. The North Patchogue Fire Department has partnered with Hell House Productions, which started doing home haunts on the front lawn in Medford. After five years of scaring neighborhood families and the opportunity to expand, the North Patchogue Fire Department has given them a new home and created NPFD House of Horrors.
Doors open for the first time on Oct. 5 from 7 to 11 p.m. The haunt is open every Friday and Saturday during October and Oct 29, 30 and 31 from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are sold at the door, and are $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. Cash and credit accepted.
Yaphank Trail of Terror
65 Main St., Yaphank (Yaphank Presbyterian Church)
Located on the grounds of the Yaphank Presbyterian Church, this half-mile-long trail through the woods will take you 12 terrifying minutes to complete, with no place to run or hide. Utilizing the darkness of the woods to it's maximum potential, you'll have plenty of time between scenes to contemplate what might be next or what that noise was that you heard. In addition to the trail, there's also plenty to do if you're too scared to walk. There will be a classic thriller/horror movie playing in the field every night, as well as a bonfire and concession stand. So if you just want to buy a few marshmallows at the concession stand, roast them at the bonfire while watching the movie or walk the trail, the Yaphank Trail of Terror has something for everyone!
The trail is open Oct. 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27, from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $12.
Deepwells Haunted Mansion
2 Taylor Lane, Saint James
Deepwells Mansion is known for an abundance of paranormal activity throughout the year. In October, the mansion open its doors and welcomes everyone in to tour the screamingly horrific Deepwells Haunted Mansion. Explore room after room, floor after floor, of horrific scenes and creepy clowns, spiders galore and scientific experiments gone wrong. Good luck finding your way through the dimly lit hallways. And just when you think you survived, think again! In order to exit, you must also make your way through the Terrifying Trail -- the woods on the haunted grounds of the mansion.
The trail is open Oct. 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27, from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person.
Spooky Fest at Tanglewood Preserve
1450 Tanglewood Road, Rockville Centre
The Center for Science Teaching and Learning (CSTL) celebrates Halloween with Spooky Fest. Sixteen acres are transformed into a family friendly Halloween event. Wooded paths, exhibits and festivities on the preserve will be featured, with eerie lighting, special effects and characters along the way. Everything is perfectly spooky and a little scary. The event features a walk through the Haunted Woods, a not-so-spooky walk through the woods for children, a kids arts and crafts area, live animal exhibits, face painting and more.
Spooky Fest is open Oct. 13, 19, 20, 26, 27 and 28 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., rain or shine. Tickets are $10 for the non-scary attractions only, and $15 for the whole experience.
The Haunted Woods
1606 Wading River Manor Road, Wading River (Schiff Scout Reservation)
The Theodore Roosevelt Council invites the public, and Boy Scout troops across the Island, to the Haunted Woods. The Schiff Scout Reservation will be transformed into a spooky haunted spot, featuring a haunted house, a hay ride, an escape room and more.
The event will be open Oct. 26 from 7 to 11 p.m., Oct. 27 from 2 to 11 p.m. and Oct. 28 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. All-inclusive tickets for all three attractions are $40. Individually, the hay ride is $10, the haunted house is $15 and the escape room is $20.
