Looking to sell your dental practice? Learn About the Smilist!

The Smilist is looking for new practices to partner with, and that could be you!

Perhaps you’re thinking about retirement. Or you need more support, a partner to take on the administrative responsibilities of running a practice. We know that you’ve poured your heart and soul into building and running your practice, so we are honored that you’d consider partnering with us. We love supporting dentists as they practice clinically excellent dentistry and provide outstanding patient care.

Get to know us by reading through some of our frequently asked questions so that you can get to know us better.

Step 1: Am I a Candidate

What types of doctors or dental practices does the Smilist affiliate or partner with?
We are looking for practices with providers that are skilled, dedicated to patient care and committed to growth. We have no minimum or maximum revenue requirements.

I am considering selling but am not ready, is there a way to learn more about the Smilist in the meantime?
We periodically hold events focused on CE, community engagement, and just getting to know our neighbors. Reach out to us and we would be happy to host you.

When is the right time to sell my practice?
Every situation is different and everyone has different goals. The best piece of advice we can give is to not wait for the practice to lose value. If you are starting to slow down, now is the time to sell.

Step 2: The Deal

What is the practice valuation process?
Our business development team will work with you to get some information including your tax returns, patient base and operational details to arrive at a fair market value that our offer will be structured on. Our valuation will be based upon the level of cash your practice is able to generate as well as your commitment to staying on with the practice after close.

Do I have to pay any fees?
Definitely not. We are not a broker, so we don’t charge any fees.

What will I need to do during the process?
We’ll need some of your time and perhaps that of your staff. This will help us to collect the necessary practice information to complete our analysis and develop a proposal/valuation.

Step 3: The Transition

Post-affiliation, what changes can I expect?
There will be some minor changes that you and your staff can expect. Our team will be with you every step of the way during and post-transition. We have a proven track record of successfully transitioning practices. We understand that the staff is normally nervous and we provide ample support and guidance so that their concerns are relieved quickly.

Will you keep my staff?
Yes. You and your staff are invaluable and we welcome all aboard.

Step 4: Life at the Smilist

What benefits will I have as an employee of the Smilist?
The Smilist is proud to offer healthcare and retirement (401K) benefits. Offices are typically closed on major holidays and we are flexible on vacation time, whatever has been your schedule will probably be ok.

Will I be able to maintain clinical autonomy?
Yes, you will. Doctors are in charge of their treatment planning and patient-care decisions. Our role is to help and support you and your team so that you can practice dentistry.

I built my practice through being an active member of the community, will the Smilist allow me to continue that?

Yes, we aim to take an active role in the communities we operate in and are always looking for ways to root the practice in with the people it serves.
